As ElderCollege Delta gears up for its 15th spring season, council members were delighted to learn that London Drugs has stepped up to offer a donation of four laptop computers for use in its popular technology courses.

These courses have enabled scores of local seniors (50 years+) to become more computer literate, whether it be learning the basics to advanced applications, including word processing, photography, genealogy, digital and social media and more.

“We extend a huge thank you to London Drugs for this donation,” said Sally Norcott, who heads up the committee that organizes the technology programs. “In addition to upgrading our hardware, these new laptops will mean that seniors who don’t have a portable computer can get hands-on practice with the Windows 10 operating system.”

While computer and technology offerings have been a mainstay of ElderCollege Delta programming, it also offers a host of other stimulating courses, field trips and special presentations, covering topics related to health and wellness, lifestyle, language and literature, visual arts, music, social studies and science.

A full page ad detailing spring semester offerings will appear in the Optimist in early February and program brochures will soon be available at local libraries and recreation centres.

Online registration for programs begins Feb. 19 at www.kinvillage.org/elder_college. In-person registration will be available for existing members on Feb. 19 at Kin Village Community Centre from 7 to 9 p.m. and for new and returning members on Feb. 20 at Ladner Pioneer Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memberships ($10 for a year) can be bought online prior to course registration.
